BEING LATINA By: Marisa Xochtl Jimenez Hi girls, I’m Marisa and I wanted to let you all know that all of my articles have one goal: Unifying and Building a Strong Latina Familia. I hope you are able to identify with my stories and I look forward to your feedback. Let me know how you feel. Being Latina is a Blessing. Just being alive is an honor. So let’s make the most of it. Life can be fun and rewarding but it can also be chaotic and blurry. And when you’re stuck in those times of chaos, just remember you are not ALONE. We’ve all gone through the drama, tears, “chisme,” and heartbreaks. And trust me there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Think back of your last obstacle. How did you get out? Remember when it was so painful and you couldn’t breathe. Well, you made it out!!! Congrats! And guess what, you became stronger, smarter and wiser. Once you encounter these obstacles and you successfully pull through from them, it’s so rewarding and powerful. My father once told me, when I was in my most distraught phase in my life, that I wouldn’t be Human if I hadn’t gone through it. Meaning everyone goes through it, and it only means you’re living life— Whole heartedly, passionately, loving and Alive. I can think of at least five times in my life when I felt so lost. My girlfriends weren’t really my friends—so I felt I had none. I fell in love and got heartbroken (twice). I didn’t know what I wanted to do in life. I worked really hard and I felt nothing was happening. Someone told me a really ugly comment about myself. And unfortunately, I took it to heart. I’m sure there are more but these are the ones off the top of my head. I can now look back and be proud of who I am. I am now stronger, wiser and have come to the conclusion that I can handle anything. That’s how strong I am. And so are you!!!!!
