INTRODUCING OUR FIRST COVER GIRL MARISA GUERRA WE ONLY HAVE REAL GIRLS ON OUR COVERS! IT COULD BE YOU! THE BIG INTERVIEW Interviewed by: Jeret Pena (I want to add some graphic on the background and do the JP wording part cuter) If ambition is the measure in which we determine success then Marissa Guerra will eventually have the world. I had the pleasure to meet this young lady and was startled to see a high school girl so involved with her school and community. Because it is a rare commodity now a days to find these characteristics in someone so young, her story and all will know accomplishments. Her leadership qualities not only have the capability to inspire and motivate others but to possibly give an insight to what we all can achieve in our lives no matter what walk of life we are in currently. LET THE INTERVIEW BEGIN… <JP> You are graduating this year from Reagan High School. Are you counting down the days till you walk the stage? <MG> Yes. I’m very excited!! <JP> So how many days are left? <MG> I only know how many months I have left. <JP> Where are you planning on going to school next year? <MG> Baylor, I really love the campus. It’s really beautiful. It’s one of my dream schools in Texas. But I wanted to go to NYU for a really long time. But it’s pretty cold up there. <JP> Yeah the cold can be a deterrent. <MG> (Laughs out loud.) <JP> As many seniors do in their last year of high school, do you think you will Sercombe to senioritis? <MG> No my dad is real strict. So it definitely will not happen. Definitely not. <JP> What does your father do? <MG> He is a mechanical engineer and a project manager. <JP> Do you think he attributed to you being ambitious and goal orientated? <MG> Yes <JP> How? <MG> My sister kinda fell into that crowd and ended up not doing her best so he moved on to the next kid. Which was I. He’s on me a lot on grades and everything I do. He checks it every day. <JP> Being in many organizations can aide one in not being lethargic or sedentary. How many organizations are you apart of and which is the most enjoyable? <MG> In school I’m in the Spanish club and that’s kinda big thing for me because its part of my culture and everything. And I’m in “Friends” and that’s really fun to be part of too. <JP> What is “Friends”? <MG> Friends is where we befriend mentally impaired and handicap kids. There is also Global Awareness where we’re helping kids in Africa and stuff like that. <JP> So what you would like to tell our readers is to stay busy while in school? <MG> Oh yeah there is one other organization that I’m part of outside and its called N.H.I., the National Hispanic Institute. And that takes up half my life. It takes a lot of my time. <JP> Can you tell me what is the main purpose of N.H.I.? <MG> It is a real big organization and its made up of summer program which helps with leadership skills. This summer I’m going to C.W.F aka Collegic World Series that teaches you about having colleges finding you not you finding them. <JP> Can any high school students join this group? <MG> The National Hispanic Institute anyone can really join. There are like an open family. <JP> What other advice would you give to our readers in regards to school and community activities? <MG> I think its great to be outside of school because you know who you are inside of school and outside of school some people will define you and help you figure out things that you wouldn’t have figured out if you were in school. <JP> So these groups have helped you figure out who you are and what you want to do? <MG> Most definitely it helped me figure out what I want to do in the future. <JP> How hard was it to give up sports your senior year? <MG> It was really hard and they would make fun of me and because it feels like your sitting down on the couch all the time <JP> Many people your age are not as involved as you are in school and community activities. Why are these activities important and how does it help others as well as yourself? <MG> I think its important because it helps build your character and it helps others because not only are you growing as a person but it helps them grow as a person. <JP> Can you or anyone make a difference in your community? <MG> That is what NHI is all about. You’re the leaders of the future. You’re the leaders of tomorrow. You can make a difference step up and take the reigns. <JP> Do you think of yourself as a leader? Very much so. |
