OUR JOURNEY

How it all happened…

While working for the government I decided to focus again on my dream to once have my own business
-I began working on my business plan again
-Researched every day the impact of the hispanic buying/spending power
-After researching I had My Epiphany
-I realized that Hispanics spend their disposable income groceries and children’s clothing
&  began to think…
groceries & children…
-Well, everyone has to go to the grocery store and most parents take their children to the grocery store
-Most parents buy their children what they want at the store
-Everyone has to pay at the check out counter
-Everyone has to pass the magazine racks to pay
-It all made sense: Hispanic buying power/grocery stores/young girls/magazines
-“Oh my gosh!  There is not one magazine for young latina girls??”
-I didn’t sleep for months researching the magazine industry and the void for young Latinas
-I must start my own magazine!
-Quit my job in Sacramento to follow my dream back in Los Angeles
-Prepared for the launch of my magazine…Lateena Girls
-Returned to my hometown, San Antonio, to have a preview party promoting my magazine that was set to launch January ‘05
-The day after my party I was contacted by Latina Media Ventures (owners of Latina magazine, one of the top national hispanic woman’s magazine)
-This was my first true obstacle: federal lawsuit
Lateena girls vs. LMV (~1.5 years)
-The Press described it as a “David vs. goliath”
-I had the support from family and friends
-Settled case
-Proud to announce our new and improved name:
Chica Girl Magazine!

My Dream became a reality at the
Pink carpet affair
Chica Girl magazine launches: July 14, 2007!
