POEMS BY JERET PENA This issue I will show you a side of me that I rarely ever let come to light. I love writing and reading poetry. I started writing poetry after I graduated high school as a way to kill time while I sat in a cubical at a telemarketing company. The more I wrote I began to see a theme emerge. It became obvious in January of 2000 that I had a lot to say. It was the end of the beginning for me. As I read more poems from other poets I developed a respect and greater understanding about different styles of poetry. I also learned the importance of writing as a form of therapy. Writing has been a very important part of my life. Where All Things Are Heard calloused fingers labor on ebony keys an empty canvas conveys the mood yet verbose by nature and a neurotic mess wanting to hear like eyes can see simple this window powered by the dead has purpose it is here a sound mind and steady fingers compose an orchestra of words it is here ears serve no purpose but to hear the ebony keys it’s a pleasant sound like the sound of rain falling on the bill of a cap it is here all things are heard Once Loved placed into an oubliette heart grows cold rank scent of a stranger on soft linen cast mad men into existence the very thought of love the battle of the soul and mind and to discourse about loves lore will lay waste to the weak and strong alike needing to be forgotten ironically the heart has found the perfect place The Perpetual Smile like a smile on stage pearly whites and plump cushions takes the heart for a ride racing pass empty vessels that moving aimlessly though life in this dream of reality clarity and chemicals overwhelm sensory overload is on the brink enamored through the first person view love, life, the future and the past all exist at the moment of locking eyes sad is time and the lack of it is beauty |
