CATHERINE SHARES HER FASHION TIPS by: Catherine Mejias 1. If you have a pair of dangling earrings that you absolutely love and have lost one, have no fear. There is still a way you can wear that earring with pride. All you need is a simple chain or necklace and attach the earring to it. Simply curve the hook of the earring around to make sure that it’s secure and now you have an awesomely unique necklace that no one else has. 2. Unfortunately, some of the really cute dresses out there have necklines that don’t always allow for a necklace. Sometimes, a necklace just becomes too much for the outfit. Instead, take the necklace you were planning on wearing with your outfit, wrap it around your wrist until it fits you comfortably and you have a bracelet which adds a sassy touch to your outfit. 3. Long skirts were in at one point and then went out of style. Now, short dresses are in. If you have a long skirt and don’t know what to do with it, don’t worry. All you have to do is make it a dress which can be worn again and again. In minutes, you have a cute strapless dress that you can accentuate by adding a funky belt. 4. Anybody can walk around in a simple feminine outfit but still look “blah”. Adding a cute little bow to almost anything can add instant “chica-ness”. A bow can be added in many ways: pinning one onto your blouse, wearing it on a headband, a belt, and even bracelets. 5. Bold prints are something that are constantly coming in and out of style. They are also very cute, but be warned. You should find a print that fits your body shape. Don’t buy a small print if the body type is slightly larger, it’s all about proportion. If you’re very tiny, you don’t want a huge print because you’ll only drown in the pattern. 6. If you are wearing an outfit with a solid color, add a touch of a brighter tone to make the outfit more interesting. For instance, RED. Be careful with how much of the bright color is used because they can be overbearing at times. (Check out pictures from the photo shoots for examples.) 7. Thin scarves have been proven to be very versatile. They can be worn as headbands, belts, and even as an accessory to be added to your purse to add a touch of flare. 8. Avoid horizontal stripes at all costs. Either use vertical stripes or stripes that are forming an arrow-like pattern, facing up or down. This arrow-like pattern, depending on which way it’s pointing, can accentuate your waistline and your bust. 9. When it comes to accessories, sometimes we are skeptical as to whether we should mix gold and silver. For many girls, it’s one or the other, not both. It’s ok to wear both at the same time. If you choose to go with mostly gold, limit the amount of silver and don’t wear it all in the same place either. A gold bracelet with a silver ring is an example of how it’s safe to mix the two. 10. Another important factor when it comes to accessorizing, don’t wear too many bold pieces at once. If you choose to wear those huge dangling earrings, don’t wear a necklace that’s just as big or bigger; wear a simple chain or nothing at all. If you want your necklace to be the main focal point, wear small studded earrings, or small dangling earrings. |
