16. I was given the opportunity to work for ChicaGirl Magazine as an intern last summer and I thoroughly enjoy it. I have always wanted to work in the fashion industry and this is the perfect opportunity for me. I eventually want to end up in New York City pursuing my dream career. We have a great close-knit team at Chicagirl, all from different socio-economic backgrounds, but focused on making ChicaGirl better with each and every issue. I first found out about this magazine when I was in high school and knew that I wanted to find some way to be a part of it. I think that it’s amazing what this magazine represents. It’s not your everyday magazine in the sense that you are only getting the latest and greatest fashion tips, but it encourages girls to pursue higher education and be who they truly want to be.  It shows Hispanic women who have found their calling and have made amazing careers in fields that not many Hispanic women venture out to.  I find ChicaGirl inspiring because it reaches out to the young Hispanic female population that gets lost in the mainstream media.  It gives a very positive outlook on life and I find that very motivating. Growing up, I never had any Hispanic influences outside of my home that related to young girls like myself. I enjoy helping to make this magazine a big part of Latina girls everyday lives. I am thankful to have this opportunity to work at ChicaGirl Magazine and I know that when I graduate from college and pursue my career, I will be able to take the skills and knowledge that I learned from both the team and the magazine with me for the rest of my life.
