Hola ChicaGirls! This is a very special issue to me. I’d like to dedicate it to my grandfather, Antonio Jimenez, Jr., who passed away this past November. He was a big part of my life and I miss him—I was even named after him: Toni Lee Jimenez. I used to joke that if I was a boy I would have been named Antonio Jimenez IV. Either way, I’m proud of my name! Many of us may have lost someone we love—a family member, a friend or someone special. At times it will be hard but you have to think of all the good times you shared with that person. It will always be tough, but in time, it will get a little easier. And, you’ll always have the wonderful memories. Thank you, Grandpa, for always having a huge smile on your face and being the best Grandpa, husband, father & friend. We miss you and we love you. And on a very personal note: I hope I make you proud. Love, Toni About ISSUE #7 In this issue we are excited to include a lot of new contributing writers. We focused on culture this issue and we hope you enjoy every page! We also acknowledge the ChicaGirl/UIW Spring 2009 Scholarship program. Congratulations to all the deserving recipients! And THANK YOU, UIW! The Issue 7 cover page is a first for ChicaGirl. We have four cover girls—they are the proud, hard-working CG interns. It’s great to see that our mission holds true: every girl is beautiful and can be a cover girl. It also proves to be a confidence-builder; promoting self-esteem. I saw this first-hand with my interns. Instead of being behind the scenes, they were all so nervous to have all the attention on themselves for this photo shoot. In the beginning, they were timid and nervous but by the end of the photo shoot day, they were confident. You could see it in their poses and hear it in their laughter. They were having fun—and they looked GREAT … Exactly what the photo shoot is supposed to do. You will also be able to learn a little bit more about the ChicaGirl interns and about myself as the featured Motivational Woman story. Enjoy! Reminders: Keep inviting your friends to join the magazine and maybe you’ll be our next ChicaGirl CoverGirl! Don’t forget to visit our ChicaGirl store before you log off. Check out the Project WORTH essay and art contest winners inside this issue. If you’re interested in contributing to our next issue, email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
